In 2009 the National Career Academy Coalition (NCAC) introduced a career academy review process based on the National Standards of Practice (NSOP). The review process identifies career academies around the country, in urban, suburban and rural settings that exemplify the career academy research-based best practices with evidence of fidelity to the NSOP. (Current National Academy Foundation (NAF) career academies should check with the Regional Director about the reciprocity agreement with NCAC.)
Academies earn NCAC accreditation through the review process which requires providing evidence of fidelity to the NSOP, and an on-site visit or virtual review with two certified NSOP reviewers. The score earned determines a rating of the academy: "Model with Distinction", “Model,” “Certified,” or “In- progress.” Certification status is maintained for four years.
Current Highlight: Waipahu High School is the first school in Hawaii to have wall-to-wall Model Academies, including two that earned Model with Distinction certification.
