NCAC Model Academies from 2015 to Present

In 2009 the National Career Academy Coalition (NCAC) introduced a career academy review process based on the National Standards of Practice (NSOP). The review process was a response to many requests from the field to identify best practices and strong career academy implementation models.  The review process identifies high quality career academies around the country, in urban, suburban and rural settings; that exemplify career academy practice and structure and are able to provide evidence of their ability to demonstrate fidelity to the NSOP.

Over the years, the review process has been refined and has moved from a paper-driven model to one that is electronically based. A school district, school or academy applies for and pays to have an NCAC career academy review. That request is reviewed and directions are provided to the academy for electronic submission of the data and information requested based on the ten standards of the NSOP. Two nationally certified reviewers are assigned to make a site visit after they have reviewed the electronic submission. Reviewers have an opportunity to meet with administrative staff, the academy team and team leader, students and the Advisory Board. Following the visit, an assessment is completed and a rating determined for the academy(ies) of “model,” “certified,” or “in progress.”

What follows is a current list of NCAC model career academies. Their status is good for four years. If you are currently a National Academy Foundation (NAF) career academy, talk with your Regional Director about a reciprocity agreement.

* NCAC/NAF Dual Recognition Academy: This academy is a member of both NCAC/NAF and has been recognized as a Model Academy by both organizations.
